Counselor Profile
Krista is a former Assistant Director of Admissions at Johns Hopkins University, where she had extensive experience in reading STEM, engineering, and pre-med applications.
At JHU, Krista evaluated applications for both the Krieger School of Arts and Sciences and the Whiting School of Engineering. Krista additionally participated in the review of several specific applicant pools. She sat on the merit scholarship award selection committee, which reviewed the most highly accomplished applicants from the entire application pool. She also participated in the highly competitive biomedical engineering applicant selection process. Krista partnered with coaches to support the DIII recruited athlete admissions process. Krista also evaluated transfer applications. In addition to evaluating applications, Krista led the admissions staff training, which included reviewing industry trends in admissions.
Through her experiences in admissions, Krista has gained valuable insights into how colleges strategically build well-rounded classes. She also saw firsthand how the pandemic drastically affected the admissions process and has nuanced insights into the application process in a post-pandemic world.
Before working in admissions, Krista graduated from Johns Hopkins University with a degree in cognitive science and minors in marketing and French. During her undergrad years, she worked in a research lab in which she investigated the development of children’s memory and learning. From this experience, she realized she enjoys the science of learning and human development, which led her to the field of higher education. She is currently working on a Master of Science in Organizational Leadership from Johns Hopkins University.
As a counselor, Krista is straightforward, but also positive and supportive. She enjoys helping students craft their narratives in their applications and empowering them to practice their soft skills such as self-advocacy, self-reflection, communication, and writing skills in the college application process. She encourages her students to work ahead and create a more manageable application creation process through smaller, successive goals and tasks. Krista loves her role as a counselor as she is excited about making an impact on students’ lives and helping them learn more about themselves in the college application process.
In her spare time, Krista can be found cheering on the Baltimore Ravens and Orioles, racking up points at trivia night, or curling up on the couch with her rescue cat, Cannoli, and mini-Aussiedoodle puppy, Tiramisu, while diving into a book. Two fun facts: she’s trained in classic vocal performance and can sing opera! She has also been riding horses since she was four years old and has competed in USEA competitions around the country.
