IvyWise is an independent firm that guides students and their families through the school admissions process, empowering students to reach their academic and personal goals while alleviating the stress commonly associated with school and college admissions. Our tutors complement school-based services by reinforcing subject lessons and/or assisting students with preparation for standardized tests required for admissions. Truly passionate about our students’ success, our tutors have a strong rapport with each student and are adept at customizing each session to their individual needs. RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Work one-on-one with students to prepare for ISEE/SSAT tests
  • Help students develop foundational study skills needed for ISEE/SSAT testing
  • Explain ISEE/SSAT test format and scoring to students/families, including section breakdown, question type, percentiles etc.
  • Using diagnostic testing, create a personalized tutoring plan for each student based on his/her level, achievement goals, and learning style
  • Adapt said tutoring plan based on student’s progress and, make recommendations for their overall tutoring program
  • Coordinate tutoring sessions with each student’s family and adhere to the agreed upon schedule
  • Stay up to date on changes to standardized tests and curricula, adapt teaching methods for new content, and apply latest methodologies during tutoring sessions
QUALIFICATIONS: You must be reliable, flexible, and patient, and have excellent teaching and interpersonal skills. The ideal candidate will also possess the following:
  • Bachelor's degree required, teaching certification preferred
  • Previous teaching and/or tutoring experience with K-6 students required
  • Experience tutoring ISEE (Primary & Lower) and SSAT (lower) required
  • Ability to tutor in-person in New York City and surrounding areas
  • Flexible schedule required
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Positive professional manner and good sense of humor

  • Stay up to date on changes to standardized tests and curriculums, and apply the latest strategies, methods, and content during tutoring sessions
  • Respond to all correspondence from students, parents, and the IvyWise Tutoring Manager and Client Relations Managers within 24 hours of receipt
QUALIFICATIONS: You must be reliable, flexible, and patient, and have excellent teaching and interpersonal skills. The ideal candidate will also possess the following:
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Ability to teach all sections of the SAT and ACT required
  • Flexible schedule required
  • Previous test preparation training strongly preferred
  • Previous tutoring experience, particularly for college-bound high school students, preferred
  • Ability to tutor online through Skype and other similar web-based programs
  • SAT Subject Test tutoring & AP tutoring preferred
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Discretion and dedication to protecting the confidentiality of students and families
  • Confidence, resourcefulness, accountability, and a high degree of integrity and ethics
  • Strong computer skills required

IvyWise guides students and families seeking admission to Pre-K, K-12, college and graduate schools and programs. Our counselors complement school-based services and are truly passionate about our students' success, becoming trusted advisors and advocates for our students. A college counselor assists students in grades 9-12 with all aspects of the college preparation, search, and application processes. We are currently seeking a part-time counselor to work with students. This position provides the opportunity to counsel students, manage individual projects, and work as part of an energetic and creative team. QUALIFICATIONS: You must be organized, detail-oriented, have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the natural inclination to think creatively and work both independently and in a team environment. The ideal candidate possesses the following:
  • Bachelor's degree required. Advance degree preferred
  • A minimum of 3 years of direct experience in undergraduate admissions office of a selective US college or university. Experience in college counseling at a selective high school may also be considered towards, but not in lieu of, this prerequisite. Experience in both is preferred. Prior involvement working with international students is a plus. We cannot consider the candidacy of any applicant who does not meet this prerequisite.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (both oral and written)
  • Attention to detail, with excellent organizational skills
  • Discretion and dedication to the confidentiality of high school students and families
  • Confidence, resourcefulness, accountability, and a high degree of integrity and ethics
  • Multi-lingual is preferred, especially a second language in: Spanish, French, Portuguese, or Mandarin
The part-time counselor position requires flexibility as part-time counselors often work weekends and evenings to advise students. Applicants must be available for one weekly evening team meeting in the fall (remote participation acceptable).
