Tutor Profile

Seamus specializes in tutoring for writing and essay skills, as well as preparation for the SAT, ACT, and AP exams in French, Spanish, English Language, English Literature, World History, and U.S. History.

Seamus has 25 years of experience in tutoring, test prep, and essay writing help. Seamus’ approach to tutoring is specifically tailored to each student, with an emphasis on strategies that boost test-day performance. Seamus makes test taking accessible and easy to understand.

Due to his own extensive writing and editing experience as well as his foreign language skills, Seamus is aware of the challenges students face in mastering writing and essay skills. He is especially adept at helping students (native and non-native speakers) boost these skills both in English-language courses, as well as in subjects that require strong essay skills.

Seamus loves working with students and is a powerful motivator. He excels in boosting students’ confidence and believes that learning should be fulfilling and life-enhancing. He is more than just a tutor, he also has extensive experience writing for the educational sector. Previously, Seamus was the editorial director for The Princeton Review series of test prep and college-readiness titles; a senior editor at McGraw-Hill Educational Publishing; and an editor, writer, and content developer at Scholastic Educational Publishing. He has also worked with the New York City Department of Education on shaping their history curriculum.

Seamus is an extensively published writer. His most recent book was The History of the Claddagh Ring and he is currently writing Strange and Surprising Ireland, a book about overlooked aspects of Irish history and culture that will be published by Ulysses Press in 2025 and distributed by Simon & Schuster.

Originally from Ireland, Seamus has lived, worked, and studied in France, Spain, Germany, and the U.S. He is the co-author of the college admission guide “Best 376 Colleges: 2012 Edition,” and is a guest speaker on a wide range of national and regional media outlets, including NPR and Fox Business News.
