Carl R.

IvyWise Master Tutor

B.A., Columbia University

Carl specializes in preparation for the SAT, ACT, SAT Subject Tests, Math I, Math II and academic support for middle school, high school and college level mathematics.

Carl is a tutor and teacher with over eight years of experience specializing in SAT and ACT test prep and mathematics. Carl has helped hundreds of students from around the world maximize their potential through in-person and online tutoring sessions.

Carl earned his BA from Columbia University and began teaching soon after. He also joined the faculty at the Avenues World School in Manhattan as a HIP (High-Intensity Practice) tutor for the school’s mathematics department. In addition to test prep, Carl tutors every level of academic math offered in middle school, high school, and college.

Carl’s strengths as a tutor lie in his ability to pinpoint a student’s specific needs and strategy gaps, as well as his ability to recognize a student’s natural strengths as a test taker. Carl teaches a standardized test as if it were a game of skill. The first step is to learn the rules of the game, the second step is to devise a specific plan of action for each obstacle, and the third step is to practice until it becomes second nature.

As a test prep tutor, Carl has had extensive experience with the SAT, ACT, SAT Math I and II Subject Tests, AP Calculus AB and BC exams, and he has coached many students to success (many achieving perfect scores.)

Carl is currently pursuing a master’s degree at Indiana University – Bloomington and also works as an associate instructor for the university, teaching two sections of Learning Strategies for Math, a class designed to help business majors succeed in finite mathematics.
