Counselor Profile

Cara specializes in students seeking admission to competitive, highly selective or all-women’s schools, recruited athletes, and international students.

Cara is a former Assistant Dean of Admissions at Colgate University, and previously worked in admissions at Boston College.

As an Assistant Dean of Admissions at Colgate University, Cara worked directly with the Visual Arts and Music departments helping to evaluate students’ portfolios and performances in addition to reading international and US applications. Cara later acquired a Master in School Counseling degree from Boston College, where she also worked in undergraduate admissions.

She has spent the past eight years in college counseling at independent schools, where she has interacted with a wide range of students including Division I athletic recruits, international applicants, and students who are the first in their families to attend college.

When working with students, Cara utilizes a stress-minimizing approach to the college application process, and brings the energy of mindfulness meditation to all of her student interactions.

Cara is an avid violin player, having played since elementary school and in the Emory University Symphony Orchestra, and is currently a fiddle player in an eclectic jam band. It has allowed her to have a deeper understanding of how music and the arts can enrich a student’s application to college and also his or her experience in higher education.

Cara lives outside of Boston with her family and Chesapeake Bay Retriever. On the weekends, you can find her going for hikes, trying new recipes, or binge-watching episodes of Top Chef, Chopped, or Chef’s table.
