As pediatricians, we frequently encounter young men and women who are so overextended, so anxious, and so focused on achievement that their stress becomes pathological. These are the students who have difficulty falling asleep at night and fret over the least consequential of things. These are the students who spend countless hours practicing the violin, but never take the time to see the beauty of the music they are creating.
Trying to fight the “summer slump?” There’s an app for that! Even with the dog days of summer approaching, students can still get organized for the upcoming school year and admissions season. Many teens are glued to their smartphones or tablets, so why not make it worthwhile? There’s a plethora of apps out there that can help students learn throughout the summer and stay on top of their busy schedules.
No one wants to spend the summer sitting in a college class, however for many students, summer courses are a great way to stay on track for graduation in four years.
