Financial Aid Consultant
Amy specializes in financial aid counseling for families that need additional help planning and applying for financial aid.
Amy is an Associate Director of Financial Aid at a highly-selective four-year research university in the Northeast. She has over 17 years of higher education experience and has spent the last 14 years within financial aid.
Amy received her BA in international relations from Colby College and her MA in educational studies from Tufts University. Amy loves the financial aid aspect of the college admissions process as it combines her rather unique love of tax returns with her passion for counseling students and parents to help them successfully finance a college education.
As an Associate Director of Financial Aid, Amy is responsible for analyzing and awarding financial aid for a 500-student caseload, while also counseling her families one-on-one from pre-matriculation through graduation. She is deeply involved within her institution and serves on numerous committees working to improve equity and access for underrepresented students.
Amy utilizes her expertise to help families navigate the complex, and oftentimes emotional, financial aid process. Through one-on-one counseling, Amy is able to set realistic expectations while helping families better understand the wide range of institutional financial aid practices, support the completion of financial aid forms, assist in comparing and deciphering award letters, and help in the appeal for additional aid when needed.
When she’s not analyzing tax returns, Amy is raising two young girls with her husband. She is a Spinning™ and Stages Flight™ certified instructor, as well as a board member of the Farm Direct Coop – a program that connects organic farmers to local residents through a weekly CSA-like distribution. The extras from this coop are shared with local colleges in an effort to help mitigate food scarcity issues on campus.
